Swedish Defense

Momentus consultant supported Swedish Defense Material Administration with the redesign of the military maintenance operations.

As the political climate changed, due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact, the directions and operations of the Swedish Defense were also changed, from a more traditional defense-model to a networking organization.

Such a networking organization aims to provide military capabilities that are more flexible and offer faster reactions to unpredicted needs. In this change, one central type of operation is the maintenance of military material that needs to be managed differently in the new organizational set-up. Maintenance operations are made up of a complex of activities, resources, directives, and operations, which aim to secure the correct status of military materiel.

A Momentus consultant directed the re-design of the new maintenance operations,
by organizing a trans-organizational taskforce, including representatives from different organizational units.
Together with this taskforce, the current maintenance operation was briefly identified, as were requirements to be made on the new maintenance operations.
Thereafter, the very redesign process was conducted, with detailed descriptions of operational models of the desired situation.
These models were then exposed to a validation and accreditation process, followed by the approval.

The formulated models, of the redesigned maintenance operation, provided unambiguous and well-articulated plans that are now guiding the actual implementation and realization work.

The Momentus consultant contributed to this redesign based on his experience, with modeling and design methodology, along with project management and group management skills.
